A dental crown is a permanent prosthesis that is used to protect a living or devitalized tooth.

The detachable dental prosthesis, which may be removed whenever we want, and the fixed dental prosthesis, which will replace one or more injured teeth, are the two types of prostheses. The bridge and crown are examples of permanent prosthesis. By resting on the root of a tooth, the latter will replace it.

Our Clinadent dental surgeons will be able to advise you on the best dental prosthesis for you and the best care plan to follow after studying your oral health and expectations.

What is the definition of a dental crown?

The dental crown is a fixed prosthesis that can be used to artificially restore a broken tooth that is too worn or improperly formed, or to safeguard a dental implant. The crown might resemble a natural tooth due to its form and appearance. It will provide patients with a genuine sense of ease while also restoring the aesthetic appearance of their teeth.

In some situations, the dental crown will be combined with an inlay-core, which is a faux-mignon that is secured to the tooth's root by a tenon. This will function as the crown's anchor.

The crown will be custom-made by a dental technician in consultation with your Clinadent dental surgeon, and will be cemented or glued to the damaged tooth.

Before beginning the installation of your dental crown, your dentist will need to complete a few processes such as removing infectious tissue, cutting the tooth so that the crown fits exactly, and generally preparing the region that will be treated as thoroughly as possible.

There are various types of crowns available today, each fashioned of a different material.

The resin crown is a "temporary" crown that protects your teeth while your permanent crown is being made by the prosthetist. It's not a good idea to keep the latter for too long because its porous appearance encourages the growth of bacteria.

The metal crown will be utilized for crowns on molars and premolars because of its extremely durable appearance.

The ceramic crown is made up of a ceramic base that is covered in a ceramic that matches your teeth's color. It blends in seamlessly with the rest of the teeth.

The ceramic-metallic crown: the metal structure is coated with a ceramic that gives it the appearance of natural enamel while remaining more opaque than the rest of your teeth.
